Thanksgiving

We had a busy Thanksgiving. Ryan and I were both off starting Wednesday. We were able to get our tree up and get decorated for Christmas. We went to Sumter Thursday and had Thanksgiving dinner with Ryan's family. Mama, Emily and me went shopping Friday. Saturday we went over to Stan and Logan's to watch the Clemson/Carolina game. It was a good game - too bad the Tigers couldn't pull it out! Here are some pics of our long weekend...

Early Thanksgiving in Simpsonville

We spent this Sunday in Simpsonville having Thanksgiving with my side of the family. Missy and Blake were kind enough to host all of us at their house. It was fun seeing everyone. Mia was a little shy at first, but she had fun - especially playing with Cousin Ava's tea set. Thursday we are going to Sumter to have Thanksgiving again. I'll try to post more pics then...

This weekend...

Kicked back watching her new car DVD player...
Loving the laundry basket...
Standing up drinking her milk like a big girl...

Walking

Mia has started walking consistently now. She took her first few steps the day before her birthday, but this weekend she really started showing off. Don't get me wrong, she prefers crawling, but she has figured this walking thing out. It's so cute watching her. She has had lots of tumbles, but she gets back up and tries again. It's so amazing that this time last year she couldn't even hold her head up, and now she is toddling her way across the living room!

1 year check-up

Mia had her 1 year check up this past Monday. She was quite the handfull in the doctor's office. She is no longer content just sitting in our laps. She must move around and be entertained. She weighed 24 pounds and is 31 2/4 inches long. She is at the top of her growth chart. She got 3 shots and cried a little, but took them like a big girl! For being so good, we took her to McDonalds and got her an Oreo McFlurry. She gobbled it up! I guess we will make this a tradition after she has shots!

November 4th

Wow! What a big day Mia had on Saturday! It looked like Christmas in our living room. Everyone was so nice and gave such great gifts! Mia was distracted from the gifts by Mr. Rylan. She saw him and she just lit up. Rylan was nice enough to hug her and give her kisses on her forehead. It was so good seeing everyone. Mia looked like a big girl in her birthday dress! We had so much fun! Happy birthday, sweetie!

Being a mom...

I know I have posted this before, but it's so sweet and very true!

Being a Mom

Before I was a Mom I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby. I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous. I never thought about immunizations.
Before I was a Mom - I had never been puked on. Pooped on. Spit on. Chewed on. Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.
I slept all night.
Before I was a Mom - I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests. Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.
Before I was a Mom - I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.
Before I was a Mom - I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.
Before I was a Mom - I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, The joy, The love, The heartache, The wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.

Wow! Almost a year....

It's so hard to believe we have had our little girl for a year. She has developed from helpless, little baby to a mobile, busy, and beautiful little girl! Here are some fun factoids of Mia at a year:

Size Diaper: 4

Favorite toy: Anyone's cell phone or a remote control - her push walker is a close third!

Favorite Food: She loves macaroni and cheese and pasta w/marinara sauce. She is pretty much off of baby food. She has one jar of fruit a day. Other than that she eats what we eat at night.

Pacifier: Loves it!

Bottle: Slowly weaning from them. She is down to about 3 bottles a day. She drinks out of a sippy cup or a straw the rest of the time.

Favorite snack: She loves the yogurt Cheerios or the Fruit Gummies for babies

Size clothes: Mostly 12 month, but wearing some 18 month

Walking: Will stand alone and will cruise and crawl all day, but has only taken 1 or 2 steps so far.

Things Mia loves to do: be outside, pick leaves from trees, DANCE, sing, look at pictures of people, watch doggies, listen to the Baby Einstein cd's, clean out dresser drawers for mama and daddy, reprogram cell phones, eat M&M minis (I know, that's bad!), drink out of mama and daddy's cup, throw tantrums, and Mia gives the best hugs and little open mouth kisses!

Words: mama, dada, something that sounds like doggie, something that sounds like uh-oh

Things Mia doesn't like to do: Have diaper changed, be told "no", have clothes changed, have hair pulled up, have something taken away from her

Things I love most about Mia: Her beautiful smile, her giggle and fits of laughter, her hugs, her kisses, her arms reaching out for me, her excitement to see us in the morning or when we walk in the door at daycare, her singing, her dancing, holding my hand while she sleeps, laying her head on my shoulder while she sleeps, cuddling during naps, every perfect little thing about her!

Looks like: Daddy

Acts like: Mama

Teeth: 2 ( I know - that's really only a 2 - not a typo!)
What an amazing year! Not only is Mia turning 1, but we have been parents for a year. Wow! I can't believe how lucky we are to have such a perfect little angel. It's been a year full of learning new things, sleepless nights, watching the world through new eyes, witnessing first smiles and words, and loving someone so much that it hurts! I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world - even when I'm tired and feel like I have no idea what I'm doing! Her beautiful smile makes it all worth it! We're so proud of the little lady she has become and we look forward to year #2 and the many more years to come!

Mia's first Halloween!

As you can see, Mia was a little witch for Halloween. Mama and daddy came over to see her and help give out candy at our house. They even got a little help from Aunt Emily and Uncle Brian. We had lots of fun! Mia was worn out by the time we returned home. She has even slept all night 2 nights in a row (10+ hours)! Yahoo!!!
